Munnar Adventures Takes Kerala Higher: Mt. Ramjak Summit at 6,318 Metres

A historic Himalayan achievement by the Munnar Adventures mountaineering team

On September 10, 2026, the mountains witnessed another remarkable achievement by a team from Kerala.

At approximately 8:00 am, a four-member mountaineering team from Munnar successfully reached the summit of Mt. Ramjak at 6,318 metres, in the remote Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh.

The expedition was led by professionals associated with Munnar Adventures, one of South India’s established adventure and mountaineering organisations. For the team, Mt. Ramjak was more than another summit—it was a demonstration of the technical expertise, experience, preparation and expedition capabilities that Munnar Adventures has developed over the years.

From Munnar to the Himalayas

Munnar Adventures has built its identity around adventure, mountaineering, outdoor activities and responsible exploration.

Based in the mountain town of Munnar, the organisation has been involved in adventure activities, technical installations, mountaineering training and expedition-based operations for years. Its team brings together professionally trained mountaineers, instructors and adventure professionals with experience in challenging mountain environments.

The Mt. Ramjak expedition represents another dimension of that expertise.

While Munnar Adventures is widely known for adventure activities and technical adventure installations, its mountaineering team continues to pursue challenging Himalayan objectives—taking the organisation's experience from the Western Ghats to the high-altitude environments of the Himalayas.

The Mt. Ramjak Expedition Team

The four-member team comprised:

Kannan M – Former Special Officer, National Adventure Academy

Vinod Jacob – Managing Director, Munnar Adventures

Prince Jacob – Executive Director, Munnar Adventures

Shijo Jose – Director, Munnar Adventures

All four members are professionally qualified mountaineers and hold the Mountaineering Instructor (MOI) qualification.

Their collective expertise covers technical climbing, high-altitude operations, mountain safety, rescue techniques, expedition planning and mountain management.

For Munnar Adventures, this professional foundation is central to the way the organisation approaches adventure—not simply as recreation, but as a discipline requiring training, technical knowledge, preparation and responsibility.

Mt. Ramjak — 6,318 Metres of Challenge

Located in the Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh, Mt. Ramjak rises to 6,318 metres and presents a demanding high-altitude environment.

The expedition involved varied Himalayan terrain, including scree, ice and snow. As the team climbed higher, the terrain became increasingly technical, requiring careful movement, acclimatisation, endurance and sound mountain judgment.

The expedition was approached with the same principle that defines Munnar Adventures' professional operations:

Preparation first. Safety always. The summit comes second.

Four Camps to the Summit

The team established a progressive four-camp route towards the summit.

The Base Camp, positioned at approximately 4,700 metres, was established on scree terrain.

From there, the expedition progressed to Camp 1 at approximately 5,100 metres, where the climbers encountered a combination of ice and scree.

Higher on the mountain, the route became predominantly icy. The team eventually established Camp 4, the Summit Camp, at approximately 5,800 metres, on ice and snow.

From this final camp began the decisive summit push.

September 10, 2026 — Summit Day

The final ascent began with the team moving through the high-altitude terrain towards the summit.

At approximately 8:00 am on September 10, 2026, the four climbers successfully reached the summit of Mt. Ramjak — 6,318 metres.

According to the team's expedition records, this represents the first successful attempt and summit of Mt. Ramjak by a team from Kerala, while also making the expedition the second Indian expedition team recorded by the team to successfully accomplish the ascent.

For Munnar Adventures, the summit represents an important milestone in its continuing mountaineering journey.

Experience That Led to Ramjak

Mt. Ramjak was undertaken by a team that already had significant Himalayan experience.

The members have previously successfully summited Mt. Shadidhar, Friendship Peak, CB14 and Shinkun East, building experience across different Himalayan environments and levels of technical difficulty.

These previous expeditions, combined with professional mountaineering qualifications, provided the technical and operational foundation for the Mt. Ramjak attempt.

For Munnar Adventures, every expedition is an opportunity to learn, improve and prepare for the next challenge.

More Than an Adventure Company

Munnar Adventures' work extends beyond conventional adventure tourism.

The organisation has developed expertise in adventure activity design, technical installations, mountaineering, rescue operations, adventure training and safety management.

Its professional team includes experienced mountaineers and instructors, and the organisation has undertaken adventure projects and technical installations across Kerala and other parts of South India.

The Mt. Ramjak expedition reflects this broader identity.

It demonstrates that the same organisation involved in creating and operating adventure experiences on the ground is also capable of taking on some of the most demanding environments in the Himalayas.

From designing adventure installations to standing on a 6,318-metre summit, the common foundation remains the same:

technical expertise, disciplined preparation and respect for the mountain.

The Next Challenge: A Virgin Peak

For the Munnar Adventures team, Mt. Ramjak is not the destination.

The next major objective is an expedition to a virgin Himalayan peak, where the team aims to explore and attempt an unclimbed summit.

A virgin peak presents an entirely different challenge. Unlike established climbing routes, an unclimbed mountain demands exploration, route finding, assessment of unknown terrain and the ability to make decisions without relying on an established summit route.

It is a challenge that represents the adventurous spirit at the heart of Munnar Adventures.

And Beyond — Mt. Everest

Looking further ahead, the team's long-term objective is Mt. Everest.

The world's highest mountain represents the ultimate progression of the team's Himalayan ambitions.

The path towards Everest will not be rushed. Each expedition is viewed as another step in building experience, technical capability, high-altitude endurance and expedition leadership.

Mt. Ramjak is one more step on that journey.

Carrying Munnar to the Himalayas

Munnar has always been associated with mountains.

For Munnar Adventures, those mountains are not simply a backdrop—they are part of the organisation's identity.

The successful ascent of Mt. Ramjak carries that identity into the high Himalayas, placing Munnar and Kerala on another important mountaineering platform.

The team returned from the 6,318-metre summit with more than an achievement.

They returned with experience, knowledge and an even greater ambition for the mountains ahead.

The summit of Mt. Ramjak has been reached.

The next mountain awaits.
